I've been working free-lance since 1995. I started working as computer trainer and evolved towards database design and website development. Until 2009 I was based in Epsom, Surrey, now I'm based on the Isle of Wight (Totland Bay).
Qualifications and Experience
My most recent qualification is an MSc in Information Technology, awarded by Liverpool University (2006). A few years before that I studied Theology at St John's Seminary, Wonersh (BTh awarded by University of Surrey). I also have secretarial qualifications (Pitman's College, Wimbledon) and a BSc in Plant Biology (University of Hull).
A few years ago I set up a company called ByteHaven Ltd which handles my web-related work, application development and any IT consultancy I do. There's a Portfolio page on my ByteHaven site which displays some recent work. The computer training I continued to do as a sole trader until 2008 at which time I transferred it to ByteHaven Ltd.
Between 1995 and 2000 I worked part-time for Sigma Management Consultants, developing MS Office templates, automating MS Office, creating an intranet and generally providing IT support.
For the 12 or so years leading up to 1995 I worked for the British Nutrition Foundation providing secretarial and administrative support. It was here that I first really became involved with IT, automating much of the work carried out by support staff as first word processors and then PCs were introduced in the '80s and '90s.
